The basic administrative unit of these ancient counties was the Church of England parish, whose surviving records can now be found in the Record Offices of the modern counties. We also offer access to the archives of ancient towns and cities such as Durham, Carlisle, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle and York.

If you are just beginning your family history researches this is the place to start. Your family tree provides the basic building blocks for any genealogical research; tracing your ancestry back to 1837 using the civil records and beyond that towards the 17^th century using the records of the parish churches.

If it has been established that your ancestors came from the North of England, this element of our offering builds on the family tree information to help develop a comprehensive understanding of your ancestor’s life and the community in which they lived.

Northern Roots can provide digital pictures of  a wide range of subjects including places and locations, churches, tombstones, monuments, commercial, industrial and residential buildings.

 

 

 

Note that a Research Report for a particular client may well encompass two, or even all three, of these elements. Our reports are tailored to your requirements.
